You already make the thing. Planners, templates, printables, presets. And people are already searching Pinterest for exactly what you make — that traffic is free, and it does not care whether you have a shop.
The usual next step is Etsy. It works, but it takes a cut of every sale and it keeps the customer, so you never get the buyer's email address and the second sale costs you the same effort as the first. Here is how to point those pins at something you own instead, starting on a free account.
What you need to sell digital products on Pinterest
Three things, and that is genuinely all:
- A page that shows the product and explains it
- A checkout that takes card payments
- A way to send the file the moment someone pays
Anything else — a shop front, a domain, a logo, an accountant — can wait until you have sold something.
Step one: build the sales page
In systeme.io a page lives inside a funnel. Create a funnel, choose the sales page template, and you have an editable page with a headline, an image and a buy button. Put your product mockup at the top, three or four lines on who it is for, and the price.
Keep it short. Someone arriving from a pin has already decided they are interested — the page only has to confirm it. If you want the anatomy of a page that converts, a sales funnel is simpler than it sounds: one promise, one reason to believe it, one email box and one button.
Step two: connect a checkout without a shop
Systeme.io connects to Stripe and PayPal. Both take roughly 2.9% plus 30¢ per transaction, which is what any platform charges you. Systeme.io itself takes 0%, on the free plan and every paid one.
How much does Etsy take on the same sale?
Worth doing the arithmetic once, because the headline number is not the number.
- $0.20 listing fee — charged again every time the item sells, digital downloads included
- 6.5% transaction fee on the total, shipping included
- 3% + $0.25 payment processing
- 12–15% Offsite Ads fee, which becomes mandatory once you pass $10,000 in a trailing year
That is roughly 9.5% plus $0.45 on every transaction before ads. On a $20 template, Etsy takes about $2.35. Through your own checkout the same sale costs about 88¢ in card processing and nothing else.
The full Etsy fee breakdown is here, including how Offsite Ads becomes compulsory once a shop crosses $10,000.
Etsy fees checked 4 September 2026 against several current 2026 breakdowns; systeme.io free-plan features checked against systeme.io's own pricing page. Sources disagree on how many automations the free tier allows — some say one, some say unlimited rules — so if your setup depends on custom automation, check that limit before you build.
Step three: deliver the file automatically
Upload the file to the product itself in systeme.io. When someone completes the order form, delivery happens automatically — no separate email tool, no manual sending at eleven at night because someone bought while you were asleep.
Step four: keep the buyer's email address
This is the step Etsy cannot give you, and it is the one that compounds.
Every buyer who goes through your own checkout is a contact on your list. When you finish the next product you tell them directly — no new pins, no algorithm, no fees. The second sale is free.
It also changes what a pin is worth. On Etsy a pin earns you one sale minus fees. Pointing at your own page, that same pin earns you a sale and a customer you can reach again for nothing.
If you have never built a list before, this covers starting one from zero followers — what to offer, where to collect it, and what to send first.
What it costs to start
Nothing. The free plan is permanent, not a trial: 2,000 contacts, three funnels, one course, one blog, one custom domain and unlimited email sends.
Where the free plan runs out
Three funnels and one course. Selling one or two products, you will not reach it. If you do, Startup is $17 a month — less than Etsy takes on nine $20 sales.

Common questions
Can you sell digital products on Pinterest without a website?
Yes. You need a page, not a website. A single sales page inside a funnel does the job — it has a URL you can pin, a buy button and automatic file delivery. A homepage, an about page and a domain are all optional until you want them.
Does Pinterest allow selling on the platform?
Pinterest allows you to link a pin to a page where something is for sale, including your own. It expects the pin to describe honestly where it goes, and it treats repetitive, near-identical commercial pinning as spam. One product, several genuinely different pins pointing at it, is fine.
Do you need a shop to sell printables?
No. A shop front is a place buyers browse. If your traffic arrives from a pin, the buyer has already chosen the product before they land, so browsing is not the job the page has to do — confirming and taking payment is.
How long does it take to set up?
An afternoon for the first one, and under an hour for each after that. The page and the checkout take the longest; file delivery is one upload.
What does it cost to sell digital products on your own page?
The platform is free. You pay the card processor roughly 2.9% plus 30¢ on each sale, which you would pay anywhere. On a $20 product that is about 88¢, against roughly $2.35 on Etsy.
